Notebooks of the SM Foundation, No. 16 The SM Foundation addresses with the present work the study of the family institution through the investigation of married couples, recently incorporated, and non-married people living in the same home. The study has investigated the values, expectations and dynamics of couples, as well as their opinions and attitudes regarding their relationships of coexistence before, during and after marriage or constituted in stable couples. Likewise, another block of issues focuses on paternity and maternity, and special attention has been paid to different contextual factors: environment where those couples, kinship networks, work environment, or religious practice levels have been provided. The study was carried out at the national level (except Ceuta and Melilla) through 2,500 interviews -1,800 to married people and 700 to unmarried people. The universe of the sample comprises individuals of both sexes between the ages of 16 and 39, married or who live with stable couple in the same household, less than ten years ago.
